The development of Rega Research

In 1973, the two founders, Tony Relph and Roy Gandy, set out to produce record players. They were to offer a unique sound experience - and at a price that everyone could afford. They formed the name of their company from the surnames of the two music enthusiasts.

In April of the same year, they launched their first product, the Rega Planet turntable, which paved the way for their success. In the years that followed, they continued to work on new products. Just two years later, the Rega Planar was released, the first turntable in the series of the same name. At the time, it was limited to 200 models. Today, there are eight different turntables in the series.

In addition to record players, their range also includes other high-performance hi-fi products. They began producing loudspeakers in the 1980s and soon followed this up with amplifiers such as the Elicit MK1.

Production at Rega is lovingly crafted by hand. The company has an almost 3530 square metre hall in the south-east of England, behind whose gates the magic happens. From there, they ship their products to 46 countries. Each item has a fixed place there, where the employees assemble the components with precision to create the best sound.

To ensure that the sound is reproduced true to the original, the company has developed its Rega Fono preamplifier. It is a powerful partner alongside your new record player. It reliably transmits the signal. Switches on the back of the housing allow you to easily switch between the MM and MC cartridges.
