S/PDIF
Stands for Sony/Philips Digital Interface. Frequently used digital interface for the transmission of audio data. Either optical-digital (TOSLINK) or electrical-digital (coaxial).

Sampling rate
Designates the frequency at which transducers register an incoming signal. CD recordings have a sampling rate of 44.1 KHz. This means that the signal value was determined 44,100 times per second.

Sensitivity
Describes how much sound pressure a loudspeaker can produce with an applied energy level. Typically measured at one watt of applied energy at a distance of one metre. The more honest specification refers to the voltage level (2.83 V/1 m).
