Overview

With the M2 series, we have succeeded in bringing the unique sound but also the outstanding build quality of MUSICAL FIDELITY into a completely new price range. The entire experience of almost 40 years of hi-fi development and production has been incorporated into this series with circuits from our most expensive products. Equally important to us is the manufacturing quality. The elegant design and the great touch quality underpin this claim. MUSICAL FIDELITY M2si - everyone should have one !

Technical background

The M2si offers 6 high-level inputs, one of which is switchable either as an AUX input or as an HT (home theatre) input directly without volume control to the integrated power amplifier. The M2si stands for highly impressive high-end sound quality. Its continuous output of 75 watts into 8 ohms and 135 watts into 4 ohms is absolutely sufficient for almost all applications. The high screen capacity enables a stable and deep stereo sound image with impulsive dynamics. On top of that, the M2si also offers flawless resolution. The M2si also benefits from MUSICAL FIDELITY's exclusive SMD circuit board technology. This reduces the space required for the circuits on the motherboard and gives us much more flexibility in circuit design. The measured values are, as usual with MUSICAL FIDELITY, not an end in themselves but still impressive. The distortion is 0.014 %. The frequency response linearity is an impressive -0.1 dB over the entire frequency band. The M2si features very low distortion, less than 0.02% (measured from 20Hz to 20KHz). Most manufacturers do not measure over the entire frequency range because they do not consider it relevant. They argue that you cannot hear such high frequencies and therefore consider it irrelevant. We cannot disagree strongly enough! We know that the high-frequency distortions are crucial for the correctness of the entire circuit and its implementation for the sound. Being able to drive speakers without distortion under all loads with a wide bandwidth is the most important basis for music. The preamp in the M2si is a true Class A circuit and has its own power supply and separate transformer winding. It is in fact a pre/power amplifier combination in one cabinet. A special feature that all MUSICAL FIDELITY amplifiers have is the AUX / HT input. With this input, it is possible to route the signal for the two front speakers directly from a multi-channel processor to the power amplifiers of the M2si. This means that even the most demanding cineastes can enjoy the sound quality of their M2si without having to reconnect and without having to do without the extensive comfort features of their AV controller. The processor then takes over the volume and bass management, the M2si only functions as a power amplifier at this point. This makes other configurations conceivable, such as bi-amping with a second M2si or setups with active crossovers. In addition, the M2si has 2 outputs, which make it very flexible to use. The TAPE REC output is a volume-controlled output, e.g. for a recording device. The PRE OUT output is volume controlled and allows the connection of active subwoofers, active speakers or the integration of a second amplifier for bi-amping. We have developed the M2si so that it works without problems in everyday use. For example, switching is noiseless and the volume control is designed so that the full sonic potential can always be exploited, even at the lowest listening levels. It may be very inexpensive, but it still fulfils all wishes and is a real audiophile gem. The sound quality of the M2si reflects the immense effort that went into its development and manufacture. It sounds as good as it looks. The sound is smooth, confident and structured. Although the sound is very natural and tempts you to listen to music for hours, it avoids any coloratura in the sound image. Despite the very moderate price, the M2si integrated amplifier is characterised by a very audiophile sound. It can be a great starting point or just as much a final point of your HiFi odyssey.
