Box type and recommended use

For many years, the two-way bookshelf speakers nuLine 30 and nuLine 32 have been delighting both experts and discerning music lovers. With new loudspeaker drivers and slightly more cabinet volume, the newly developed nuLine 34 has the best prerequisites to continue the success and to trigger even more sound fascination. The nuLine 34 spoils its listeners with a sound quality that is hard to beat, whether in fine hi-fi stereo systems or dynamic surround systems. With a peak power handling of 220 watts, it is recommended whenever space is limited but first-class sound reproduction is still expected - even in medium-sized rooms. A series of optimisation measures on the woofer as well as on the cabinet proportions help the compact shelf speaker nuLine 34 to achieve an astonishing bass reproduction that, with a lower cut-off frequency of 48 Hz (-3dB), is comparable in low bass to many a floorstanding speaker. For an even more significant extension of the low bass range down to the lower listening limit, the nuLine 34 can be perfectly complemented with the AW-600 active subwoofer, which is also very compact, or the bass-powerful nuLine AW-1100. The speakers of the nuLine series are developed in Schwäbisch Gmünd and manufactured according to our specifications at a traditional specialist company for sound furniture construction in Germany.

Construction principle and housing

Two-way compact loudspeaker in bass reflex design. The bass reflex port is located on the rear side of the cabinet, which is why the speaker should be placed at least 3 centimetres away from a rear wall. The cabinet is made of 19 to 38 mm thick veneered or multi-layer lacquered MDF material and is manufactured by an experienced sound furniture specialist in Germany. In order to minimise the resonance of the cabinet walls, which would be detrimental to the sound, the cabinet has precisely calculated stiffening and damping elements inside, which are hard to find anywhere else in this price range. Because it is often used horizontally, the nuLine 34 has no threaded bushings on the underside of the cabinet.

Tweeter

The tweeter range features the newly developed "nuOva" tweeter with special sound guidance and a specially damped rear volume chamber. Its acoustically optimised sound front allows to further increase the distance between the dome and the cabinet edges compared to the previous asymmetrical Nubert tweeters, which further reduces the edge dispersion in axial direction and noticeably increases the clarity in the high frequency range. At the same time, the driver can be moved closer to the mid/bass driver in the perpendicular direction, which is in line with the ideal of a point source without having to accept the disadvantages of a coaxial system. The asymmetrical arrangement of the tweeters means that a "right" and a "left" speaker is always supplied.

Woofer

For maximum dynamics and impulse accuracy in the low/mid range, a high-tech chassis with an 18 cm longstroke polypropylene cone, consistently perfected by the Nubert development department, is used. The advantages of this transducer also include a deep-drawn pole plate for exceptionally large diaphragm excursions (up to 24 mm) and a flow-optimised cast basket.

Crossover

The excellent sound quality of this compact speaker line was and is not least a consequence of the above-average elaborate crossover, which has been optimised again for the nuLine 34 model. It consists of 23 high-quality components, including long-term stable film capacitors. Perfectly matched filter edges ensure precise separation of the drivers. The unusually low crossover frequency of 2 kHz was chosen to ensure that the speaker radiates as evenly as possible. Furthermore, this sophisticated filter network has additional circuits for impulse optimisation, frequency and phase compensation.

A protection circuit watches over the safety of the two chassis and the crossover. It cuts the amplifier current in the event of a thermal overload and then automatically resets itself to normal operation.

Switching options

A switch between the connection terminals allows for a threefold modification of the high-frequency range from "soft" to "neutral" to "brilliant", which means that the speaker can be individually adapted to different living rooms with more or less textile sound insulation or personal listening preferences.

Connection terminal

The extremely solid, gold-plated screw terminals of the bi-wiring terminal are also suitable for cables with a very large cross-section. Bi-wiring terminals allow the tweeter and low/midrange to be connected separately to the amplifier. A measure that can prevent sound loss with long cable lengths. In addition, the sound selector switch described above is located on the terminal.
