Due to the characteristics of OLED materials, OLED TVs are prone to image retention (burn-in). Burn-in may occur when images are repeatedly or continuously displayed in the same area for an extended period. This is not a defect in the TV. Avoid displaying images that may lead to burn-in.
Examples of Images That May Cause Burn-In:
- Content with black bars on the top, bottom, and/or sides of the screen (e.g., letterboxed, 4:3 screen, standard resolution).
- Static images such as photographs.
- On-screen menus, program guides, channel logos, etc.
- Static content from apps.
Additional Images That May Cause Burn-In:
- On-screen tickers, such as news or headline scrolls.
How to Reduce the Risk of Burn-In:
- Sony recommends turning off the TV normally by pressing the power button on the remote or the TV itself.
- Fill the screen by changing the [Wide Mode] setting to eliminate black bars.
- Turn off on-screen displays (OSD) by pressing the Control Menu button, selecting [Info], and turning off menus from connected devices.
- Avoid displaying static images with bright colors (including white) or logos on the screen.
- Adjust the picture settings according to the environment. For home use and content with frequent logos, the standard picture mode is recommended.
TV Features to Prevent Burn-In:
Panel Refresh
Panel Refresh adjusts the screen’s uniformity. This feature should only be used when burn-in becomes highly noticeable.
Warning:
- The Panel Refresh function may affect the screen panel. Do not perform it more than once per year, as it may reduce the panel’s lifespan.
- The effectiveness of Panel Refresh may vary depending on the condition of the burn-in.
- Panel Refresh can take up to one hour to complete.
Notes Before Performing Panel Refresh:
- During the Panel Refresh process, a white, red, green, or blue line may appear on the screen; this is not a malfunction of the TV.
- The Panel Refresh function works only at room temperatures between 10 ºC and 40 ºC.
Pixel Shift
This feature automatically moves the image on the screen to prevent burn-in.
Additional Feature
The screen brightness is automatically reduced when static images, clocks, bright colors, or logos are displayed.
