Details
Coreless Direct-Drive Motor
Traditional analog turntables can experience factors that degrade sound quality, such as slight speed fluctuations and irregular rotation (known as cogging). The SL-1200G uses a newly developed coreless direct-drive motor that eliminates cogging. The twin-rotor design reduces the load on the motor bearing while maintaining high torque, and it also minimizes rotational vibrations. These features allow the warm, exceptionally detailed sound of an analog record to shine through.
High-Precision Motor Control
The SL-1200G excels with high startup torque and exceptional rotational stability. This is achieved through the use of motor control technologies perfected during the development of Blu-ray players, as well as by switching the drive mode according to the current motor position.
Three-Layer Platter
The platter features a three-layer construction: a brass layer tightly screwed to an aluminum die-cast layer, and an underside coated with a vibration-damping rubber compound. This design ensures high rigidity and vibration-free rotation. The result is smooth rotation and inertia that surpasses even the SP-10MK2, the former industry standard turntable used by many radio stations worldwide. Additionally, this platter is more than twice as heavy as the one used in the SL-1200MK5.
High-Precision Fine Balancing
Uneven weight distribution on the platter can create vibrations and noise during rotation, affecting the audio signal. Therefore, the platter of each individual unit is finely balanced using specialized, high-precision equipment after assembly. Only then does the turntable receive its "certification" – a sticker on the underside labeled "BALANCED."
Highly Sensitive Tonearm
The tonearm is made of lightweight magnesium with high damping properties. Its material characteristics are enhanced through cold drawing, achieving the necessary precision. Using Technics' traditional gimbal suspension, where the horizontal and vertical rotation axes intersect at a central point, along with precision bearings housed in a custom-fitted casing, the tonearm achieves exceptional sensitivity for initial movements.
Four-Layer Chassis Construction
In addition to the classic three-layer chassis construction of the SL-1210MK5, which consists of aluminum die-cast, BMC, and heavyweight rubber, the SL-1200G adds a 10 mm thick, hairline-finished top plate made of pure aluminum. This four-layer composite construction combines high rigidity with an outstanding tactile experience.
High-Quality Connections
The gold-plated phono and ground terminals, made from machined brass, prevent any degradation of sound quality and allow for easy connection and disconnection of cables. Additionally, the metal shielding inside the chassis reduces the impact of external interference.
