Coreless Direct-Drive Motor for Stable Rotation
In 1970, Technics revolutionized the turntable industry with the world's first direct-drive system. Unlike conventional belt drives, our direct-drive minimizes vibrations caused by the motor, resulting in an exceptional signal-to-noise ratio and long-term reliability without the need for frequent part replacements. However, earlier models encountered issues with "cogging" due to iron cores, which affected rotational smoothness. The SL-1200GR2 features a coreless single-rotor/single-stator motor that eliminates cogging and maximizes smooth operation. Low-Noise Circuits
By utilizing a high-speed switching power supply, we guarantee consistently stable performance with minimal ripple and hum noise. The intelligent use of a switching power supply in our turntable design eliminates the need for a large transformer and additional measures to eliminate mechanical vibrations. Furthermore, operating at a switching frequency above 100 kHz ensures the suppression of potential noise interference, preserving the full range of music playback for an uninterrupted and excellent listening experience.
Active Noise Cancelling Through Power Supply
Our innovative system combines powerful noise detection with a precise error amplifier. It not only detects any noise in the power supply but goes a step further by applying a counter-phase current to eliminate these disruptive noise components. The result? A power supply that surpasses the effectiveness of conventional regulators, guaranteeing an ideal, pristine environment for your audio material – free from low-frequency noise.
Tonearm with High Initial Sensitivity
The tonearm, a crucial element for precise playback, follows the rotation of the record. Technics' tonearm is crafted from a lightweight, rigid aluminum tube in the traditional S-shape to ensure static balance. The tonearm is gimbal-suspended and features high-precision bearings. Thanks to manual assembly by skilled craftsmen, it achieves an initial movement sensitivity of 5 mg or less. This careful construction ensures precise tracking of the record grooves. Additionally, it is equipped with a counterweight, offering flexibility for a wide range of cartridges.
Two-Layer, Rigid Platter with Vibration-Damping Properties
The advanced design of our turntable ensures exceptional sound quality through the combination of a two-layer construction with strategically placed damping rubber. This effectively eliminates unwanted resonances, allowing for a clear and immersive listening experience. By optimizing through simulation, we increased the aluminum die-cast portion to enhance inertial mass and minimize vibrations, resulting in improved overall performance. Additional reinforcement ribs on the backside further increase stability. Compared to the SL-1200MK5, our turntable offers more than double the vibration-damping properties, providing an unparalleled listening experience.
Two-Layer Chassis Construction
The SL-1200GR is extremely stable due to its two-layer chassis construction, which securely bonds the BMC (Bulk Molding Compound) with the aluminum die-cast chassis.
High-Quality Connections
The turntable features gold-plated phono terminals for detachable cables, allowing for a wide selection of different cables. At the same time, the metal shielding inside the chassis ensures effective reduction of external noise interference.
High-Damping Silicone Isolators
The SL-1200GR2 uses special silicone rubber for the isolators that support the chassis, ensuring high vibration-damping properties and long-term reliability.
